Enyimba FC has sent a message of support to Rivers United following a road accident involving the team.

The Aba-based club says it stands with its NPFL rivals in the incident  involving the club’s players and officials on their way to Awka, Anambra State, for their President Federation Cup Round of 16 fixture against Nasarawa United.

The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred around the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport axis in Rivers State as the team traveled for the crucial cup encounter.

Reacting to the development, Chairman of Enyimba FC and Nigerian football icon, Ambassador Nwankwo Kanu (MON), conveyed the thoughts and prayers of the entire Enyimba family to Rivers United.

“We received with shock and concern the news of the road accident involving players and officials of Rivers United FC while travelling to Awka for their Federation Cup fixture.

“We are grateful to God that no lives were lost in the incident. On behalf of the Management, players, officials, supporters and the entire Enyimba family, I extend our heartfelt sympathies to Rivers United and all those affected.

“We stand with the players and officials who sustained injuries and pray for their speedy and complete recovery. At moments like this, the football family must come together in support of one another.”

Enyimba FC acknowledges the emotional and physical challenges such incidents pose and joins the wider Nigerian football community in wishing all affected persons strength, comfort and a swift return to full health.

The People’s Elephant stands with Rivers United during this difficult moment and hopes the club emerges stronger from the unfortunate experience.
