The flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has expressed heartfelt condolences to the families and victims of the Ekwusigo Council, Anambra State crash and fire disaster.
The unfortunate fire explosion which occurred late Friday evening along Chief Jerome Udoji Road, Ozubulu near the Ekwusigo Council Secretariat, when the tanker collided with a car and a tricycle.
The ghastly collision sadly resulted in spilling of petrol being conveyed by the tanker all over the vicinity which led to instant extensive fire.
The resultant explosion saw massive fire engulfing the tanker and the whole area including many shops before help arrived.
Witnesses admitted that “The tanker hit a car and a tricycle, spilled its contents and then exploded. One person was burnt to death instantly.
“Some passengers in the tricycle sustained severe burns and were rushed to the hospital. Several shops were already on fire before the firefighters arrived.”
Mr Chukwudi Chiketa, who is the spokesman of the Anambra State Fire Service while reacting to the incident this afternoon said that three fire trucks were immediately dispatched to the scene when a distress call was received from a resident of the area.
According to him, a victim lost his life in the incident and about six shops were razed in the inferno before it was controlled.
Prince Ukachukwu while praying for the peaceful of the soul of the victim, he urged citizens to drive with utmost caution, and to avoid combustible materials as dry season has set in.
