The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Carol Arinze-Umobi has commissioned a batch of new projects across the institution’s campuses, designed to enhance student experience, academic facilities, and staff welfare.

Beginning from the Agulu campus, the Acting Vice-Chancellor commissioned a renovated hostel and provided the students with sanitary detergents.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Sunday Nduka, expressed deep appreciation for the Vice-Chancellor’s proactive leadership and commitment to student welfare.

At the Pre-degree Program Centre, Mbaukwu, the Acting Vice-Chancellor also commissioned a modern toilet facility, a functional borehole, and solar-powered streetlights. The Director, Prof. Paul Okolie, described the development as “remarkable,” adding that the new facilities will significantly enhance campus life and security.

At the Awka Campus, the Acting Vice-Chancellor in significant step in improving healthcare services on campus launched a dialysis service for the benefit of students, staff, other members of the university community and outsiders.

The project is provided free for students, at subsidized rates for staff and the public at a rate below ₦13,000. While commissioning the project Prof Arinze-Umobi said that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which made dialysis more affordable at ₦15,000 in federal hospitals.

To further enhance the medical centre’s capabilities, a new X-ray imaging machine was also commissioned. These developments are set to significantly improve the university’s health services.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor also inaugurated a CCTV Surveillance Unit at the Office of the Chief Security Officer (CSO), reinforcing her commitment to maintaining a safe and secure campus environment under her “UNIZIK Free and Safe” initiative.

Also in a historic step toward staff empowerment, she performed the ground-breaking ceremony and flag-off for the proposed UNIZIK Microfinance Bank Ltd, which aims to improve the financial wellbeing of university staff.

Additionally, she commissioned buses for free staff transportation and provided waste bins for all 17 faculties, including the administrative block, to promote environmental cleanliness and sustainable waste management across the university.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to infrastructural growth and welfare-driven leadership, describing the newly commissioned projects as a testament to UNIZIK’s vision of excellence, innovation, and community service.
