The Kanu Heart Foundation is set to hold its 2025 World Heart Day Solidarity Walk on Monday September 29th 2025, themed “Hope for Healthy Heart Walk.”

This year’s event will take place in Owerri, Imo State, following last year’s edition in Port Harcourt.

The walk aims to promote heart health awareness and raise funds to support children with heart-related problems.

The foundation, founded by Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo, has been championing this cause for years, providing life-saving surgeries and medical care to those in need.

Since its inception in 2000, the Kanu Heart Foundation has facilitated over 500 heart-related surgeries for children and adults in need, Spent approximately $4.2 million on surgeries outside Nigeria, averaging $10,000 per person and partnered with organizations like Power Oil to raise awareness and funds for heart health initiatives.

In 2023, the foundation held a similar event in Aba, Abia State, tagged “Elephant Walk with Kanu Nwankwo.” The event featured a charity game, free health checks, and a 6km walk to promote heart health awareness.

Heart diseases and stroke are among the leading causes of death globally, with low- and middle-income countries bearing a significant burden. The Kanu Heart Foundation’s efforts aim to educate and support individuals in maintaining heart health and preventing cardiovascular diseases.

The Kanu Heart Foundation’s World Heart Day Solidarity Walk is a significant event that brings attention to the importance of heart health awareness and support for those affected by heart-related issues.

With its impactful work and partnerships, the foundation continues to make a difference in the lives of many Nigerians.
