Prosper Okoye, a Mass Communication graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, has received the prestigious National Youth Service Corps Presidential Honours Award.

The award was presented at a combined ceremony in Abuja, covering the 2020 to 2023 service years. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, commended the honourees for their patriotism, teamwork and service to the country.

Each awardee will receive a cash prize of two hundred and fifty thousand naira, automatic employment in the federal civil service, and a scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies in any Nigerian university.

President Tinubu said the award reflects government’s recognition of the role of young people in national development. He noted that his administration has rolled out several youth-focused programmes, including initiatives in education, skills development and technology.

The NYSC Presidential Honours Award is given to corps members who distinguish themselves during their national service through innovation, community impact and dedication to duty.

Okoye’s journey to receiving this award began with his posting to Benue State, where he exceeded expectations and made a significant impact. He initiated community development projects, including drilling a borehole for a boarding secondary school and mobilizing support for internally displaced persons.

His outstanding service earned him recognition not only at the national level but also at the state level, where he was honored as the overall best corps member in Benue State
