A confrontation erupted in Nnewi South, Anambra State, involving the deputy governor of Anambra state and local youths at the just concluded Anambra South Senatorial Bye-Election.

The youths accused the deputy governor of interfering in the August 16, 2025, senatorial bye-election.

The situation escalated when the state government private security outfit, Agunaechemba, also known as Udogachi, stormed the area, allegedly intimidating police and others.

The Independentl Nationals Electoral Commission (INEC) in a press statement announced the ban of the private security agencies including members of Anambra State Homeland Security Agency popularly called Agunechemba, the operators of Udogachi.

The confrontation began when youths accused the Deputy Governor of breaking electoral law by monitoring and interfering in the senatorial bye-election.

Agunaechemba members, numbering about 70, arrive at the scene, leading to heightened tensions.

But the APC Governorship Candidate Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu intervened and rescued the deputy governor from the angry youths.

The Udogachi operatives allegedly harassed and searched journalists, claiming they will “deal” with them for writing what they like.

The by-election was to elect a successor of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the All Progressives Grand Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission in Awka has declared Emma Nwachukwu of APGA as the winner of the Anambra South Senatorial By-Election.
