Pentecost Women Describe Sports As  Springboard For Celebration

.…Extol virtues of Mothering Sunday

Gallant Women of the Church of the Pentecost FHA, Lugbe Abuja, have engaged the entire church members in sporting in a bid to keep fit in the service to God and humanity.

The sporting programme which began with medical check up before a walk out within and around with women folk dressed in their smartly sports outfits, was part of activities to mark the 2025 Mothering Sunday.

After a two-kilometre walk, participants were clustered within the church fitness arena for aerobics and other form of physical and mental fitness exercise accompanied by rhythmic music.

 

The President of the Church of the Pentecost Mother’s Union, Mrs. Ifoma Metu, described the exercise as an athletic engagement that also serves as a rallying point to remind the women of the areas they need to improve upon in the discharge of their duties as mothers.

“I wish we could have this kind of opportunity more than just once a year because besides fitness, it helps to bring every women together and strengthening the bond of togetherness in the service to God romantically”.

Chairperson of the 2025 Mother’s Sunday Committee, Dame Nneka Godbless said the programme tagged, ‘Walking for Life” was aimed at inculcating the spirit of togetherness, Godfearing and team work, particularly among the women folk.

“Honestly I am excited that we are using walking,aerobics, health test and table tennis as part of our sports programme for year’s mothering Sunday”

Dame Godbless further said the Mothering Sunday was all encompassing, adding that it was a springboard for both genda.

“Am amazed that our husbands came out en masse to be part of this energy sapping exercise, you know our husband also need to be fit to perform well even at home and in thier offices. Can’t you see the way am sweating. Indeed I have burnt some calories and so also other participants”

One of the participants, Mrs. Doris Echefu said beyond celebration, the fitness exercise was necessary to bring the women back to shape.

“One important thing about exercise is that it makes you fit, agile and healthy. After this my husband will see a more robust, strong and enduring wife”

For Mrs. Stella Chidoka, the value of Sporting activities such as walk and other physical exercise cannot be overemphasised.

“some of us are engaged in intensive jobs and needed to be a part of the exercise to avoid fatigue and untimely deaths.

“I can’t remember last I participated in exercise like this. Can’t you see I am sweating like a Christmas goat”

Mrs. Njideka Chukwuemeka says she is fired up with the exercise and health check as a reminder to regularly put it into practice.

“Am vibrating already with this programme. As a Fire Fighting Officer, this is good for me because I need to be healthy to perform my duty”

Sports coordinator for the 2025 Mothering Sunday, Mrs. Blessing Fasomo said the programme would be a continuous one owing to its health and other benefits.

“it’s a bonding exercise, it is very important because it helps us bond as a church and enable us to deliver on our assignment at home and office.

Mothering Sunday is celebrated every 4th Sunday in lent in the Anglican Communion.
