Prizes worth more than fifteen million Naira are up for grabs to various winners in all categories of 11 sports as the third edition of the Anambra state Solution Sports Initiative grassroots competition sets to begin March 19, 2025 across all the local government areas of the state.
This was disclosed by the chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Chief Estate Patrick Onyedum during a joint Press Conference of the Commission and the Ministry of Education at the Conference Hall of ASSDC, Awka.
The sports Commission chairman while explaining the relevance of the Anambra State Solution Sports Initiative said that it is part of governor Soludo’s manifesto of developing sports from the grassroots
“As a product of school sports, I saw it as the opportunity to actualize Mr. Governors vision, hence the birth of ANSSI. ANSSI is sports competition involving primary and post primary schools including public, federal, private and mission at various age categories (U-12, U-14, U-18)”, he explained.
“I make bold to say that within two years of ANSSI, the State is now the cynosure of all eyes as our athletes have performed creditably in national and international competitions. Our ANSSI products are scartared all over world including United States of America, Europe and Asia. In Nigeria, two of them are enjoying full scholarship from a sports academy in Abuja”,
“Our records at the National Youth Games has continued to improve. As at the time ANSSI came on board, the medal haul of the State was not more than 5 gold medals. But as we are sitting here now, we have moved from 7 to 9 gold medals in the last NYG in Asaba. To this end and to maintain the tempo, we have donated sports equipments ( tennis boards, basketball courts, etc to some schools to encourage them”, he informed.
Chief Onyedum while promising that the 2025 edition will be an improvement on the past editions called on all the participants (Officials and athlete) to adher strictly to the rules of the competition.
He thanked the Anambra sporting press for their support and called for more cooperation with the Commission as always and give the competition the best coverage.
Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh and the representative of LGAs Chairmen, Hon. Romanus Ibekwe, in their respective contributions, promised to mobilise materials and other relevant resources to ensure that the ANSSI third edition will be successful.
