As Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission(RSIEC) announced its time table to conduct the Local government elections 9th August 2025 yesterday, the Action Peoples Party (APP) and other political parties in the State says they are ready and comfortable with date hence they do not have any option.
The State Chairman of APP Hon. Sunny Wokekoro said his party is ready in all ramifications to participate in the forthcoming elections, as they have commenced preparing following the announcement.
Hon. Wokekoro stated this shortly after the stakeholders meeting called by the chairman of RSIEC, Justice Adoplus Enebeli yesterday, at its secretariat, yesterday.
The APP boss further said that they will use the period to go for aggressive membership drive and campaign to win the minds of people at grassroots level as the party believes in grassroots support.
According to him, the party is optimistic to win all the seats both chairmanship and councillorship seats in the 23 Local Government areas in the State, against what happened on 5th October 2024 where they lost some seats.
” As a party we don’t have any objection about the RSIEC time table because it will give us ample time to campaign and prepare for the elections.
“Last time we were unable to win all the councillorship and chairmanship seats but now we are sure and optimistic to win all.
“Our party has the capacity to win any party at the polls come 9th August 2025 because we will field candidates that have credibility and integrity” he said.
Also speaking, a stakeholder in All Progress Congress (APC) who pleaded anonymity said the time given is also comfortable with the party to enable them plan and prepare for the elections.
“We are not bothered of the RSIEC guidelines and date of the elections because it will give us enough time to prepare for us to win ” he said.
Also a members of Zenith Party, in the State, Benjamin Ikiriko, accepted the date of elections, he said this is because it will also give Zenith Party enough time go to local government areas to campaign.
