The Anambra State Government has gone a step further in the fight against fake native doctors and criminality on Wednesday by sealing a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, in the Ihiala Local Government Area.

The shrine, allegedly used by a notorious native doctor Ekene Igboegbueze to promise supernatural wealth, was shut down due to complaints from Okija residents.

According to Special Adviser to the governor, Ken Emeakai, “The government sealed the place on account of complaints it received from the people of Okija.”

He explained that Igboegbueze’s business was illegal under Anambra State Homeland Security Laws.

Chief Emeakai also stated that properties acquired with the proceeds of the illegal business have been sealed.

“All the items seen in the shrine will undergo forensic test and the outcome will determine what government will do with him,” he added.

The Director of Operation for Agunechemba Security Outfit, Chinenye Ihenko, warned youths against patronizing fake native doctors and pastors, adding “The activities of fake native doctors and pastors are promoting get-rich-quick syndrome mentality in the state.”

He encouraged them to pursue legitimate ventures instead.

Ihenko emphasized, “The mandate we have is to sanitize the state and we are on course. Anything contributing in one way or the other towards the desecration of the state and aiding criminal activities will surely give way. That we can assure Anambra people.”
