The Nigeria National League (NNL) has issued a stern warning to Prudential Sports Limited over the unauthorized presentation of a “Man of the Match” award to Doma United FC midfielder Yakubu Kenneth.

One of such incident occurred after an NNL match between Doma United FC and Yobe Desert Stars.

In a statement released by the League Board, the NNL acknowledged Prudential Sports’ intentions to motivate players and promote their brand but expressed disapproval over the failure to follow proper protocols. The League emphasized that all commercial rights to NNL matches are exclusively owned by the league organizers, as outlined in the league’s rule framework and international best practices.

The NNL further noted that Prudential Sports’ actions undermined existing partnerships and could expose the league to potential legal disputes with its commercial partners.

“As a league, we view this as a deliverate ambush of our already existing partners, who have the right of litigation against such actions if they persist,” the statement read.

The NNL has requested Prudential Sports Limited to cease further awards or activities tied to league matches until a formal agreement is reached with the league organizers. The League Board reiterated its commitment to protecting the interests of its partners and ensuring adherence to its rules.

This development highlights the importance of respecting commercial agreements in professional sports and adhering to proper channels for sponsorships and promotions.
