Former Secretary-General of Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, on Tuesday, 7th January, 2025 visited the site of the ongoing building for Emeka Anyaoku Institute of International Studies and Diplomacy.
Receiving the August visitor, UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu eulogized Chief Anyaoku for finding time to visit the institution and the site of the building project.
Prof. Ikechebelu stated that it was a rare privilege to receive an elder statement of his caliber and class as well as a great opportunity for the institution to have an institute name after him in keeping with his legacies and contribution towards nation building.
The acting VC thanked Chief Anyaoku for the visit to the site of the building even before its completion which further demonstrates Chief Anyaoku’s passion for education and governance.
Responding, Chief Anyaoku thanked the Acting Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception accorded him during the visit, he appraised the work already done at the building stating that it is a great honour to have a legacy institute named after him in one of Nigeria’s foremost institution named after the Great ZIK of Africa.
Chief Anyaoku expressed his admiration for the ongoing developments at the site of the building. He thanked the University’s management and commended the Director of the Institute, Prof. Austin Nonyelu for his vision and uprightness.
The state-of-the-art facility, which is nearing completion, is expected to be officially commissioned in the month of February, 2025.
Highlights of the visit was the tour of the magnificent building by Chief Anyaoku; UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechebelu; Director of the Institute, Prof. Au Nonyelu; the contractor of the building project and other top officials.
