The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command today joined their colleagues all over the world to celebrate the 2024 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Crash Victims.
The Command led by Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State Command, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander began the week long activities with a commemorative church service at the Living Faith Church, Awka.
The Commander, Mrs Alexander while speaking to journalists informed that the annual remembrance day programme was initiated by the Resolutions of the African Executive Council and United Nations Resolution.
She said the crash victims remembrance day celebration comes up in the third week of November every year with that of this year starting today.
“It comes up every third week of November. For this year it started on the 17th and today is the 17th. So it runs through the whole week starting with a church service. Tomorrow we have activities down to hospital visitations, etc. There will be mosque prayers on Friday”.
“We are trying to remember those that either lost their lives through crashes or were injured, disabled one way or the other. We’re trying to remember crash victims and we are trying to also be a support system for the families who have lost people, who are struggling now because of a dead person or an injured person”,
She said they are also using the opportunity to tell road users that the statistics about road traffic cases are not just figures, “the statistics we read are not just figures they are human beings so as much as possible try not to be part of the statistics”, she advised
Mrs Alexander had earlier during the church service read the address of the Corps Marshall Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Shehu Mohammed who said that road safety has evolved to become a global public issue since 1869 when the first automobile accident occurred.
Resident Pastor Living Faith Church Awka, Pastor Favour Olusina during his ministration titled Understanding Pathways To Sanctification enjoined Christians to engage the name of Jesus in battle against sin as a pathway to sanctification.
He prayed for the men and officers of the command as they begin the week-long activities marking the 2024 World Day Remembrance for Road Traffic Crash Victims and as they continue in their work the rest of the year.
“We send you forth in peace, go and experience greater peace, greater rest, greater tranquility, greater serenity, greater security. Your life will not be wasted on the Highway, no vehicle will miss road to hit any of you. There shall be no calamity in your household. We put the mark of safety upon each and every one of you”
