… Threaten To Withdraw Services

Tonye Orabere

Nigeria Labour Congress Rivers State council has condemned in its entirety the High Court judgement delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on Wednesday in Abuja to stop the allocation of Rivers State Government.

The Chairman of NLC in the State Com. Alex Agwanwor made the condemnation while briefing newsmen shortly before State Executive Council meeting at its Secretariat, D/Line in Port Harcourt, on Thursday.

According to him, NLC will direct her members to withdraw their services in the State if that judgement is implemented, saying that it will bring untold hardship to her members and crash businesses.

“The NLC in State took this position because the judgement does not have human face. We will not accept such a judgement that will have adverse effect on our members.

“Besides, will we withdraw the services of our workers because it will definitely bring untold hardship to workers and equally collapse business activities.

“We will not allow to see our members suffer,  we will continue to protect the welfare of our members, that is our priority.

“I do know that no politician in State that does not have its family member working in the civil service” comrade Agwanwor said.

He further applauded the Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara GSSRS, for the approval of N85,000 minimum wage for public servants in the State, adding that this is first the time Rivers State has gotten a more Labour friendly Governor.

“We NLC in State commended Governor Siminialayi Fubara as he graciously approved N85,000 for public servants, this has not happened before in the history for agreeing to pay more than the agreed N70,000 minimum wage. This is no doubt that Sir Siminialayi Fubara is Labour friendly” he stated.

The NLC boss in the State equally revealed that the State Council will play host to members of National executive council and National Working Committee members in the State next week.

He explained that this is first time such meetings will be holding out Abuja and urge members and the general public to attend.
