A political group in Benue state and the North Central by extension has taken a swipe at former Senator, Dino Melaye for accusing former governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom of anti- party activities.
The political group who obviously were so pissed with the PDP chieftain from Kogi stated that he was not in a position to accuse the Benue born politician of such, considering the role Chief Ortom has played in building PDP in the state, and the nation at large.
The statement read:
REJOINDER :
We have watched a video posted on social media by Sen. Dino Melaye about his altercation with former Benue State Governor, Chief Samuel Ortom. The video which we deem to be disrespectful to the person of the former Governor was made at the North Central Zonal stakeholders meeting.
It is really ironic that Sen. Dino Melaye, a man who has never championed a cause that seeks to benefit the PDP will today want to decide who should be part of PDP meeting and who shouldn’t.
Chief Samuel Ortom has every right and stake to attend PDP functions, including meetings at the highest levels of the party. If anything, between Ortom and Dino, the latter should be the one person who should be distanced from the party owing to his long rapsheet of disgraceful antecedents that run parallel with the party’s beliefs.
Accusing Chief Ortom of anti-party activity is like a pot painting a kettle black because it is quite funny how Sen. Dino is blind to the anti-party activities within his circle, yet is quick to fight Ortom.
Alh. Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential candidate in the last general elections and the current principal of Sen. Dino has a problem with Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State because Atiku openly called for the support of the governorship candidate of the APC in return for his support in the Presidential election.
The former National Chairman of the PDP Sen. Iorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the PDP never hid his anti-party activity against the party in the Benue North West Senatorial elections which Ortom who was instrumental in his elevation to the National Chairmanship position was on the ballot even as he also worked against the PDP House of Representatives candidate of his immediate constituency of Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency
What level of anti-party politics could be worse than the one coming from members of the top hierarchy of the party.
However, we understand that Chief Ortom’s only crime is that he is a patriot and an honest man who will not feign support for you only to end up disappointing you. The former Benue State Governor doesn’t play hide and seek politics like the other PDP leaders that Sen. Dino celebrate.
If Chief Ortom’s patriotism and honesty is the reason why Sen. Dino has singled him out for persecution on the basis of anti-party activities, then he should come out clear and make it known, because as for many of us men of goodwill, we deem Chief Samuel Ortom a honorable man.
We think the right thing to do at this moment is for Sen. Dino to offer an unreserved public apology to Chief Samuel Ortom for disrespecting the a stakeholder of the party who is a former National Auditor of the party, a former minister of the country and recently a two term Governor of his state; feats which Sen. Dino Melaye is yet to achieve.
