First heavy rain in Anambra State to herald the rainy season on Monday washed away the newly refurbished Ochanja Market Road in the commercial city of Onitsha which was commissioned by the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo barely a week ago.

Recall that the governor had earlier given assurance that any road built by his administration would last for at least 20 years, but the afternoon downpour unfortunately washed away portions of the Road leading to ochanja market

The Market road which is in the Woliwo community of Onitsha South Local Government Area of the state was commissioned by Soludo a week ago to showcase as one of his administration’s achievements after two years in office.

Avviral video of the washed road which started trending on Monday night showed the coated asphalts piled out with pieces scattered and water-logged on some parts of the road.

This is coming barely two days after a governorship aspirant in the state on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Valentine Ozigbo had complained about the quality of the roads being constructed by Governor Soludo, tagging the constructions companies “Soludo and Sons” in reference to their alleged incompetence

Meanwhile, residents had expressed their concerns over the poor and shoddy jobs the administration of Governor Soludo is executing in the state despite paying billions of taxpayers money for the projects.

They wondered how a few minutes of rainfall could have caused the massive washing away of the road constructed barely one week ago, and what would happen by June in other roads the government had executed.

One of the posts accompanying the video, partly read: “Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s one week old Road washed away in a spit of a second.

“The “Dubai-Taiwan” Ochanja market road in Onitsha constructed with billions of Anambra taxpayers’ money has just been washed away by just one episode of 20 minutes rainfall on Monday 25th of March 2024

“The rainfall exposed the nature of poor quality jobs executed by the government.”

“Just a few weeks ago, at the same Ochanja Market, a storey building under construction by the same government collapsed, killing an unknown number of people.

“By the time the rainfall is fully established in June, more poorly executed construction by the Anambra State Government could be laid bare for the blind to see.”

The state government is yet to respond to the viral video.
