Anambra State Police Command in collaboration with Umuoji Vigilante group, have reportedly nabbed the suspected killers of the President-General, PG, of Umuoji community, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, Chief Silas Onyima, who was killed in his country home, Umuoji last weekend.

This was disclosed by the state Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday (today).

According to Ikenga, the four suspects arrested had in their possession, the mobile phone and ATM card of the deceased.

The statement read in part, “In their confession, they named four other accomplices who are now being hunted for by the Police.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who was away in Ibadan on official assignment for the opening ceremony of the 14th Biennial Police Games rushed back home when the news of the murder broke to coordinate Police effort at unravelling the crime.

“The CP who commended the Police in Ogidi and Umuoji Vigilante for working together to apprehend the suspected perpetrators, has directed State Criminal Investigation Department to deploy its Forensic Team to the scene of crime and take over the investigation.

“He has mandated the Homicide Team of the State CID to apprehend the four accomplices still on the run and unravel the motive behind the gruesome murder.

“The Commissioner of Police also assured Presidents-General across the State that their safety is of primary concern to the Police as they represent their people in governance by their town Unions.”

It was however learnt that one of the suspected killers of the PG, an indigene of Ebonyi State was a tenant in Onyima’s building, while his mother had also served as a care giver to the PG’s mother in the past

Information has it that he was given quit notice by the PG for his diabolical ways and that may have triggered him to gang up and allegedly murder Onyima right inside his home.
