The President of Star Lady Football Club of Onitsha, Dr. Nkiruka Duru has stated that the aim of floating the football club is to give Anambra youths hope and aid their physical and mental development through sports especially football.
Amb. Duru made the remarks during an interview with reporters on Sunday, 29th October 2023 at the Awka City Stadium during the opening ceremony of the Bet9ja Foundation Anambra Premier Cup.
The female football administrator revealed that the club which came into existence last year is affiliated with the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) and is poised to play at the highest level of Nigerian club football by featuring in one of the National Leagues in no distant time.
Amb. Duru said: “Star Lady FC was born out of the love I have for football and the need for Anambra youths to horn their skills through sports especially football and engage them meaningfully as well as channeling their energies to productive use.
“I established the club in 2022, registered it with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and we are affiliated with the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA). Football is a multi-million dollar industry and we intend to achieve a lot by featuring in competitions and playing in one of the national leagues in no distant time,” Duru said
Duru revealed that the club which is domiciled in Onitsha (Woliwo district) currently has 42 players registered with the outfit. The soft spoken football administrator averred that Bet9ja Foundation Anambra Premier Cup is the second competitive football championship that Star Lady FC will feature in as part of their visibility and acceleration.
Dr Duru also informed that the club have lost just two out of over 20 matches they have featured in since their existence in 2022. She thanked Bet9ja Foundation for bankrolling the Anambra Premier Cup while promising the teeming fans of the club that Star Lady FC has come to stay in Anambra football circus.
