Traders drawn from eighty two markets in Anambra State are gearing up for the first Anambra traders Sports Competition scheduled to kick off on October 18, 2023 in the state.
The traders’ sports fiesta will include football, tennis, table tennis, draught, and Ncho competitions.
Meanwhile, the draws for the competition was held in Awka on Thursday and supervised by the Chairman, State Sports Development Commission, Patrick Estate Onyedum, and Humphrey Anuna, President General of Anambra State Amalgamated Market Traders Association, ASMATA.
The draws marked the official commencement of the competition’s activities, promising fierce yet friendly rivalry.
Speaking at the draws event, the ASMTA President, Chief Humphrey Anuna harped on the importance of fair play and strict adherence to the rules of the game.
He wished all participants good health as they prepare to engage in the contest.
On his part, Chief Onyedum reiterated the commitment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to inclusivity.
He said the competition is geared towards fostering greater participation across various sports.
He said, “With a substantial prize pool of over N10 million, the competition has captured the attention of the markets.
“Football champions stand a chance to win N3 million, N2 million, and N1 million respectively, while winners in tennis, table tennis, draught, and Ncho categories will earn N500,000, N300,000, and N200,000 respectively for their outstanding performances.”
Onyedum further commended the markets for their enthusiasm and eagerness to be part of the sports event.
According to him, the preliminary winners will advance to the rstate finals with climax on November 26, 2023.
