The Permanent Secretary, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Isah Mohammed Eyah, on Wednesday, paid a scheduled visit to the Youth Centre, Akwanga.

The visit was to ascertain the progress of renovation work on the facility.

After touring the facility, Eyah said he was impressed with the quality and progress of the job.

“This is an excellent job ongoing here.

“The contractor is adhering to the specifications and plan schedule of the job.

“This is a project with a four-month completion duration, beginning from May and to end in September, 2023.

“And from all indications, this could be completed before the agreed date as it’s on a fast pace.

“Generally, we are convinced with the professionalism of the contractor whose approach to this task is not only heartwarming but breathtaking.”

The Permanent Secretary noted that after the routine inspection, there was the need to inject some new plans into the site to give it a perfect setting to meet latest standard.

“Yes, we have discovered that there are some spaces left on this site which could be developed into revenue-generating ventures.

“We will carry out an elaborate engagement with relevant stakeholders to properly utilize those spaces.

“By this, I mean constructing additional guests’ rooms, entry and exit gates, recreational facilities, restaurant, and landscaping within the premises to add value and boost revenue generation.”

Site Architect, Bala Tsaku, of Kreaco Engineering Nigeria Limited, an indigenous company handling the project, disclosed that the project had reached forty percent stage, and assured that it would be completed before the stipulated period and released for use.

“Yes, this project is for four months, but rest assured that it would be completed before that duration.”

The job description of the Youth Centre include demolition of the old structures and attached components, remodeling of the multi-purpose hall, reconstruction of the kitchen, dinning hall, guests’ rooms, drainage system, retaining wall, administrative offices, drilling of borehole, and general landscaping to meet acceptable standard with new features.

In a related development, the Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Isah Mohammed Eyah, has sounded a firm note of warning to those encroaching on the premises of Sports Academy, Akwanga, to desist forthwith or face the full wrath of the law.

Mr Eyah gave the warning after visiting the School on Wednesday.

The Permanent Secretary who was appalled by the disturbing attitude of residents of the area for building structures on Government lands directed the Principal of the School, Williams Aloko, to produce relevant documents containing the Site Plans showing areas belonging to the School and the level of encroachment and officially forward same to the Ministry for onward action.

He further stated that Government would not fold its arms and watch people take over its properties for their selfish purpose, promising to communicate the dastardly act to the Governor for appropriate measures on the illegal occupants.

The Permanent Secretary’s entourage included Director of Facilities and Stadium Facilities, Yusuf Ahmad; Director of Sports Organizing, Lawrence Shammah and Director of Technicals, Mustapha Sani Bello.
