Colonel Samuel Ahmedu(Retired) has been unanimously re-elected President of the Federation of International Basketball Association, FIBA Africa Zone 3.
He was also elected Member of the FIBA Africa Central Board for the 2023-2027 Term of Office by member countries of the Zone on the sidelines of the FIBA Africa Congress held at the Hotel Polana Serena, Maputo, Mozambique, on Thursday, 8th June, 2023.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with Eche Amos from Maputo, Mozambique, on Friday morning, the ecstatic Ahmedu described the feeling as unimaginable.
“My brother, I can’t describe how I am feeling now. It’s just out of this world.
“Coming for this election, I misplaced my mobile phone on the plane I boarded, disconnecting me from my contacts, especially those ones back in Nigeria. However, I am only able to connect with a few people like you through my American line, but I can still be reached via my social media handles pending when I will reclaim my Nigerian line.
“But that’s not the big deal. The real deal is that I have been re-elected and this is another huge task bestowed upon me for another four years.”
The re-elected President pledged to redouble his effort to meet the mandate of his office.
“It’s said that to whom much is given, much is equally expected.
“My re-election is a further call to redouble my efforts to make the body excel and attain newer heights.
“I thank all those who have continued to support and show solidarity to me. By the grace of God, I will not disappoint them.”
The FIBA Africa Zone 3 member countries comprise Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Burkina-Faso, Ivory Coast, Niger, Liberia and Benin Republic.
FIBA Africa Executive Council Member, Abdellatif Hatim, from Morocco, supervised the election.
