Obodoeze FC emerge Champions of 2022 Oba Unity Cup

Obodoeze FC on Sunday, 13th November 2022 emerged champions of the 2022 edition of the Oba Unity Cup.

The football fiesta which commenced on the 22nd of October 2022 saw a total of 12 teams featuring in the competition.

The final match played at the Merchant of Light School pitch Oba saw Obodoeze United winning 5-4 on penalties against Isu FC after the game ended scoreless at the end of regulation time.

The hard earned win gave them the coveted prize of N500,000 and trophy while Isu FC settled for the second prize of N300,000.

In the third and fourth place playoffs earlier in the day, Super All Stars FC saw off All Stars FC to take home the sum of N300,000.

The unity cup bankrolled by Oba born  businessman and APGA Candidate for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency for the upcoming 2023 General Election, Hon. Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu saw other individual awards such as Most Valuable Player (MVP), Top Scorer and Best Goalkeeper.

In his interaction with sportswriters, the sponsor Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu stated that his passion for the game and the will to provide a platform for the youths in the state to showcase their God’s given talent is the motivation behind the competition.

Hon. Iyiegbu posited that the competition has come to stay and will be an annual event in the football program of the state.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ANSSDC) Hon. Patrick Estate Onyedum eulogized Chief Iyiegbu for the initiative behind the competition.

Hon. Onyedum stated that the competition has provided a platform to unearth footballing talents.

He said that the ASSDC will in no distant time roll out their plans for sports next year geared towards supporting football activities and other sports.
