Deanship elections were on Wednesday, 9th November 2022 held in three Faculties of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, namely Education, Management Sciences and Law.
At the Faculty of Education, Prof. Vivian Nwogbo of the Department of Education Management & Policy was elected to serve as the new Dean. In a keenly contested election monitored and supervised by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Frederick Odibo, Prof. Nwogbo polled a total of 63 votes to defeat two other contestants; Prof. Williams Obiozor from the Department of Adult Education who polled 48 votes and Prof. Ebele Okigbo of the Department of Science Education who got 44 votes.
Prof. Nwogbo will take the mantle of leadership replacing the former Dean, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu who was recently appointed as the Chairperson of the Post-Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) under the administration of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, H.E. Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
For the Faculty of Law in an electoral process supervised by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, a renowned Professor of International Law and Jurisprudence, Prof. Ogugua Victoria Ikpeze emerged unopposed as the Dean, Faculty of Law. The Faculty Board unanimously ratified her nomination as the sole candidate for the election. Prof. Ikpeze takes over the mantle of leadership to fill the void left by the elsewhile Dean, Prof. Sylvia Ifemeje who now serves as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Anambra State Government.
At the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Pius Okoye emerged as the new Dean. Prof. Okoye, an astute scholar from the Department of Accountancy polled a total of 122 votes to defeat Prof. Basil Nwankwo who polled 58 votes. Prof. Okoye takes over from the former Dean, Prof. Lilian Orogbu who is now the Labour Party Candidate for Awka North and South Federal Constituency for the upcoming 2023 General Elections.
The new Sheriffs for the three Faculties will serve for a single tenure of two years.
