Asaba 2023: Anambra Female Rugby Team To play Cross River In Semi-Finals

Anambra Female Rugby team have qualified for the Semi-finals of the Rugby event of the ongoing 7th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) holding at Asaba, Delta State.

The Rugby event holding at St. Patrick’s College field Asaba saw Team Anambra playing in Group A against the host state, Delta, Ogun and Bayelsa. Hostilities which kicked off on Sunday, 24th September 2023 saw Team Anambra drew their first game against Delta 5-5, in their second match, Team Anambra obliterated Ogun State by 27 tries to nil while seeing off Bayelsa in their third match by 22 tries to 5.

Team Anambra will now play Cross River in the Semi-finals on Monday at St. Patrick’s College field Asaba. Their opponents from Cross River topped Group B ahead of Lagos who finished second on the log ahead of Kano and Imo States.

Reacting to the result, Chairman of the Anambra State Rugby Association and Board member, Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), Princess Alban Ugonwaezeh-Agugo expressed her delight with the performance of his girls. Princess Ugonwaezeh-Agugo said the girls are poised to make Anambra proud at the competition by ensuring they get a podium finish while the Gold medal is the target at the ongoing games 7th NYG.
