Physical activity has been described as an effort that can reduce stress, improve mental health and boost self confidence.
This was stated by the chairman of the NUJ 2023 Indoor Games event, Dr Nelson Omenugha while declaring the annual event open.
According to him a physically active mind is a productive mind and can impact positively on the environment.
He promised that in future the state government will partner with NUJ through the ministry of Youth Development to make the event more successful.
The adviser to the governor on Youth Entrepreneurial Programs called on the people to rally round the governor, Prof Charles Soludo as he has good plans for the state.
He said that the governor has begun on a good note and will end well if supported.
In his speech, the chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council, Dr Emeka Odogwu while commending the committee for organizing the event enjoined journalists to endeavor to involve themselves in sports activities.
Dr Odogwu who was represented by the Treasurer of the Council, Mr Ogemdi Ozoemena said that the indoor games was introduced to help members unwind and enjoy themselves.
The Director of sports, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Mazi Ogbonna Chibueze who said that sports can help build stronger bones and muscles enjoined all to ensure participation in regular exercise.
Earlier in her address, the chairperson of the NUJ 2023 Indoor Games Committee, Mrs Ify Obi described sports as an important part of life that provide many health benefits.
She said that because sports can improve overall physical health, it is advisable for people to engage in physical activity.
She appreciated those who made the indoor game a grand success especially Mr Obini Onuchukwu, Dr Nelson Omenugha and the Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Chief Patrick Estate Onyedum who co sponsored the activity.
In the Scrabble event, Uchenna Ezeadigwe (National Link) defeated Eloka Igboegwu (Unizik FM) to emerge champion while Ifeanyi Ndukwe ( National Light) took the third position.
Mrs Ify Obi (Unizik FM) carted home the gold in Whot event with Ogemdi Ozoemena and Dr Chinwe Amati clinching the second and third positions respectively.
In the Ncho event, Dr Chinwe Okoyeocha emerged champion followed by Joy Mbachi while the duo of Dr Njideka Ezeonyejiaku and Mr Ezenwata finished joint third.
Mr Benny Egbunonu Escape is the champion of the Draft event. He defeated Dr Stanley Onunkwo while Sir Abuchi Onwumelu defeated Okechukwu Onuegbu to emerge champion of the Push-Up event.
While Angel Okoroafor defeated Chigozie Chukwuleta to clinch the Ludo gold, Chika Nnabuife and Adaobi Okeke tied in the Swell event leaving the third position for Uche Nwora.
Every body that participated smiled home with a gift. Equally the first 20 persons that attended smiled home with gift as promised by the Committee.
