Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, has marked his birthday with a message of gratitude to God and a renewed commitment to the growth of Nigerian football.
In a reflective birthday statement titled “Gratitude, Growth, and the Beautiful Game: Reflections on Another Year of Purpose,” Chief Iloenyosi expressed appreciation to the Almighty for grace, good health and the privilege of living a life dedicated to purpose, leadership and football.
Looking back on his journey from wearing the national colours to commanding the defence for Enugu Rangers and international clubs, the former Nigeria international said football remains more than a sport to him.
According to him, football is a tool for unity, a pathway for empowerment and a lifelong calling, noting that the discipline and leadership he learned on the pitch are the same attributes he brings to football administration as “D’General.”
Iloenyosi said on assumption of office as Chairman of the Anambra State FA, he made a solemn promise to change the narrative and return football to the grassroots.
He stressed that true leadership is not about sitting in an air-conditioned office but about getting into communities and creating concrete opportunities for young talents.
The ANSFA boss said his greatest joy remains seeing a young talent from a local village in Anambra get the platform, mentoring and structure needed to dream of the global stage.
He reiterated his philosophy of building a bridge between Nigeria’s glorious football past and its bright future, adding that alongside reviving grassroots sports, he remains committed to the welfare of ex-internationals and veterans through the 042 Football Legends Association.
“We must never forget those who laid the foundation for Nigerian football,” he said.
Iloenyosi said he is stepping into the new chapter with renewed energy and greater drive to push the boundaries of football administration in Nigeria, advocate for sustainable reforms and champion sports development for the youth.
He thanked his family, his team at the Anambra State FA, stakeholders, friends and followers for their love, prayers and well-wishes, describing their support as the fuel that keeps “The General” marching forward.
The football administrator pledged to continue impactful leadership and to lift Nigerian football to greater heights.
