Key football stakeholders from the South East zone, led by NFF Vice President Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu and Nigeria National League Chairman Mr. George Aluo alongside FA Chairmen have unanimously adopted the current NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau as their preferred candidate for re-election.

The endorsement was made on Saturday during a strategic meeting of South East FA Chairmen held via zoom where the leaders said continuity and stability were crucial for Nigerian football to build on recent gains.

The South East FA Chairmen present were chief Chikelue Iloenyosi of Anambra, Dr. Obioma Onyeaghala of Abia, Sen. Obinna Ogba of Ebonyi, Tony Ugwu of Enugu, and Ifeanyi Dike of Imo.

Speaking after the meeting, NFF Vice President Chief Anyansi-Agwu said the decision was based on Gusau’s track record of transparency, inclusiveness, and developmental strides since he assumed office.

“Alhaji Gusau has brought stability to the Glass House. Under him, we have seen accountability in funds, improved welfare for national teams, and deliberate efforts to develop grassroots football across the zones,” Anyansi-Agwu stated.

NNL Chairman, Mr. George Aluo, added that the league system has witnessed better organization and sponsorship drive under the current administration.

“The NNL has enjoyed more attention and support. Club licensing is being enforced, and there is a clear roadmap. Changing leadership now will only disrupt the progress we are making,” Aluo said.

Anambra FA Chairman, Gen. Iloenyosi, noted that Gusau has prioritized youth development and given state FAs more sense of belonging.

Other chairmen cited Gusau’s efforts in restoring Nigeria’s image internationally, securing better FIFA and CAF relations, and his non-interference in technical matters of the national teams as key reasons for the endorsement.

The stakeholders said they will mobilize support across the zone and beyond to ensure Gusau’s re-election, describing him as “the right man to consolidate the gains and take Nigerian football to the next level.”

With the backing of the NFF Vice President, NNL Chairman, and all five South East FA Chairmen, the Gusau re-election campaign has received a major boost ahead of the NFF elective congress.
