The Nigeria Beach Soccer League has confirmed Anambra State as the new host for the rescheduled second round of the 2025 season, which was initially slated for Kaduna State.
The event which is a significant shift aimed at reviving the energy of last season’s fan-favorite stop is expected to take place in Nnewi during the third week of August, coinciding with the region’s popular Yam Festival
The Round, initially slated for Kaduna State, will now take place in Nnewi during the third week of August, coinciding with the town’s popular Yam Festival.
The adjustment comes after logistical challenges hindered Kaduna’s ability to stage the event, as confirmed by NBSL Coordinator, Mahmud Hadejia, during a virtual meeting with club representatives over the weekend.
He said that ast season, Nnewi was explosive as it gave the league a new vibe and a memorable experience adding that it was the first time the league touched the eastern region and both fans and teams loved it.
According to him the organisers and teams are excited to bring that energy back.
The return to Nnewi signals a deliberate effort by the league to engage grassroots communities and fuse cultural festivities with sport, with expectations high for a carnival-like atmosphere during the Yam Festival.
Eight teams are contesting this year’s league, which kicked off in Kebbi State. They include defending champions Kebbi Fishers BSC, Kebbi United, Kada BSC, Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors, Nmanko Patigi BSC, Niger BSC, Ibom BSC, and Jigawa Golden Stars BSC.
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing for Kwara State to possibly host the third round. That phase will be pivotal as it will determine the six teams that will qualify for the prestigious Super Six Playoffs in December, set to take place in Akwa Ibom State.
With beach soccer gradually gaining traction in Nigeria, the blend of sport, culture, and community engagement looks set to elevate the league’s profile and provide an exciting platform for talent across the regions.
