Two-time African Player of the Year and Chairman of Enyimba FC, Nwankwo Kanu, led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko in Abuja.
Kanu, accompanied by Sporting Director and ex-international Ifeanyi Ekwueme, congratulated Mallam Dikko on his appointment and reiterated Enyimba FC’s commitment to Nigeria football growth.
The duo discussed potential collaborations, including grassroots development and talent identification programs.
Kanu charged Mallam Dikko to prioritize other sports, alongside football, to harness Nigeria’s diverse sporting talents.
“Football has received significant attention, but other sports like athletics, basketball, and volleyball require equal focus,” Kanu emphasized. “Investing in these areas will yield impressive results and position Nigeria as a continental sports powerhouse.”
Additionally, Kanu stressed the need for the NSC to address pressing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) issues.
“The league faces challenges, including funding, infrastructure, and scheduling,” Kanu noted. “The NSC’s intervention will stabilize the league, enhance competitiveness, and boost Nigerian football’s global reputation.”
The delegation presented Mallam Dikko with a customized Enyimba FC jersey, symbolizing solidarity.
In response, Mallam Dikko praised Kanu’s leadership and Enyimba FC’s contributions, assuring his support and that of the commission.
Mallam Dikko assured Kanu that the NSC would address these concerns, promising a comprehensive approach to sports development.
“We’ll work closely with stakeholders to drive growth, improve infrastructure, and create opportunities for Nigerian athletes,” Mallam Dikko said.
The visit marked the beginning of a collaborative partnership between Enyimba FC and the NSC.
