The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), United Kingdom has conferred a fellowship award (Honoris Causa) on Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) scholar, Professor Joseph Ifeanyi Brian-D Adinma, for his immense contributions, dedication and achievements in supporting and advancing healthcare of women.

The fellowship award to Prof. J.I.B Adinma was on the occasion of the special fellows and members ceremony of the professional body held on Thursday, 12th September 2024 at the RCOG’s new home domiciled at Union Street, London, United Kingdom.

The award which was presented by Ranee Thakar, President of the RCOG UK and dated 12th September, 2024 reads, “This is to certify that Joseph Ifeanyi Brian-D Adinma is hereby admitted as fellow honoris causa for his dedication and achievement in supporting and advancing healthcare for women.”

In his response after the award, Prof. J.I.B Adinma appreciated the honour and recognition to him from the RCOG amongst many medical academics in the globe.

The renowned scholar and fertility expert stated that the honour is a call to do more while promising not to relent in his contributions toward service to humanity and elevating the practice of medicine.

Prof. Adinma is a gynaecological endoscopic surgeon with over 100 scholarly publications in reputable national and international journals. He made history recently by becoming the first scholar to deliver a Jubilee Academic Lecture in Nigeria, a lecture for scholars who have been professors in their institution for 25 years and above and still in active service which was held on 6th July 2023 at the UNIZIK auditorium with the topic as, “Righting Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Wrongs in Nigeria: Stepping the Stairs or Staring the Steps.”

The RCOG is a professional association based in London, United Kingdom with members who work in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology on pregnancy, childbirth, and female sexual and reproductive health.

The college has over 16,000 members in over 100 countries with nearly 50 percent of them residing outside the British Isles.

The RCOG’s aim is to set standards to improve women’s health and the clinical practice of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the British Isles and across the world.
