The Dr. Ikechukwu Umeh Students’ Career Development Initiative (DIUSCADI) on Wednesday, 21st August 2024 held a clean up sanitation exercise as part of activities for the upcoming Life After School Career Development Seminar Series 5 tagged LASCDASS-5 expected to hold on Friday, 23rd August 2024.
The sanitation programme led by the Convener and initiator of DIUSCADI and current Head, Department of Information Technology, UNIZIK, Dr. Ikechukwu Umeh and over 60 student volunteers saw the group performing sanitation and cleaning up exercise in form of sweeping and picking of littered areas at the University’s Digital Library premises, Faculty of Arts arena, Administrative Block and Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (COCES) environment.
Reacting after the sanitation exercise, the DIUSCADI Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Umeh informed that the sanitation exercise was a decision reached by the group in their last meeting where they agreed to do some clean up exercise to teach the students of the institution that cleanliness is next to Godliness as well as to let the members of the University community known that refuses are not meant to be dumped indiscriminately.
The scholar stated that DIUSCADI wants the visitors from other institutions to have a good feel of UNIZIK during their visit for Friday’s programme in keeping with the motto of the institution which is Discipline, Self-reliance and Excellence.
Dr. Umeh said: “In anticipation of our programme on Friday, we had a meeting and agreed to embark on a cleanup exercise to teach the students the importance of cleanliness which is next to Godliness. The essence is to let the members of the University community known that UNIZIK is our community, we have to keep it clean by showing the way and letting people know how to dispose refuse the right way and not indiscriminately.
“We had over 60 students participating in this sanitation exercise as we want the visitors to our institution for our friday’s programme to have a good feel of our University and know that we have a culture of keeping our environment clean as this is also part of our motto which is Discipline, Self-reliance and Excellence,” Umeh stated.
Dr. Umeh disclosed that registration for the LASCDASS-5 programme ended on 14th August, 2024 with over 800 participants who registered expected to be in attendance while about 100 more will join virtually making up for 900 participants. He also informed that the theme of the programme is “Turn your skills into wealth for life after school,” which will feature workshop, skill up, network, exhibitions and awards.
