Police in Anambra State have discovered and recovered six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) already primed for attacks during a raid at a camp belonging to insurgents in Ogbunka community, Orumba South Local Government Area.
Also recovered were two Walkie Talkies, substantial food and groceries supply.
This was disclosed in a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
He said the raid was ordered following constant attacks on police facilities, using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), adding that all the camps were subsequently destroyed to deny the insurgents bases for launching attacks.
The statement read in part: “In the hunt for gunmen who attacked two Police Stations at Awgbu in Orumba North and Neni in Anaocha LGA in the last two weeks, Police-Led Joint Security Force was ordered by the Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye to identify and destroy any camp being used by insurgents to launch attacks within the command.
“Yesterday, Friday, 29th March, 2024 The Joint Security Force raided the forests of Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA and found scattered camps of the insurgents. The cowardly criminals fled in the face of the onslaught.”
While saying that police will sustain the raid in the forests in search of insurgents and their camps, he gave assurance that police will eliminate terrorists, rescue abducted victims and recover firearms and stolen vehicles in their possession.
