Following his teams four nill bashing of Gombe United in the NPFL match day 22 encounter, Coach Finidi George has stated that Enyimba FC is working towards something great this season.

Coach Finidi who spoke after the match which was  delayed  due to issues encountered by the Savannah Scorpions on their way to Aba, said that they will continue to fight till the end of the league.

Goals from Chijioke Mbaoma (who bagged a brace), Uche Collins and Enyimba’s player of the month, Ubort was enough to decimate Gombe United at the Enyimba Int’l Stadium, Aba on Thursday which earned the People’s Elephant’ number one position on the log.

Coach Finidi who regretted the many chances missed by his team said they were happy with the final out come insisting that he knew they will get the job done.

“We knew if we had that calmness we were going to score goals but to my surprise we were missing and missing goals, i had to encourage the boys to keep pushing and the goals kept coming, seven to eight zero would have been a good result but we are quite happy with the four zero.

“The players are capable, they are creating chances, if we convert our chances we can score more goals and they did this eaving, we will just keep encouraging them and hopefully we get the best out of them in the next game against Akwa United in Eket, Coach Finidi said.

“This is Enyimba, we play every game to win, we know it’s going to be be a difficult game because they lost, they will definitely want to come out with extra motivation, you know every team playing Enyimba would come with that extra motivation, so it’s going to be a tough one but my players are ready and we’ve told them they have to remain focused and hopefully we can have a repeat of the league”.

When quizzed on Enyimba’s top of the log position at the end of the league, he said;

“Eemh, we don’t know what’s going to happen but we are working towards doing something great, something big, we don’t know if it’s going to happen but definitely Enyimba is going to fight till the end of the league, if it happens definitely we’ll be happy at the end of the league.

Speaking further on the dearth of goal scorers, Coach Finidi who recently won the AFCON silver medal with Super Eagles in Cote D’Ivoire said it’s truly a worry expressing that it’s generally a problem in NPFL and that they have to deal with it.

While commending Enyimba’s current top scorer in the league, coach Finidi said Mbaoma can still win the top scorers gong if he can get 8 to 9 more goals.

The former Super Eagles, Ajax and Real Betis winger expressed his delight at the return of hard working midfielder, Nonso Cooper stating that his presence keeps everything calm which is the reason they call him the General.

Meanwhile, Enyimba’s top scorer, Chijioke Obaoma who bagged a brace in the encounter against Gombe United increasing his tally to 10 said he was delighted adding that he and his colleague will fight to remain consistent till the end of the league.

“Yeah, before the game it was expected that we will score more than three goals today, we are so excited and is good to see us at the top of the table, we are very happy and we will stay consistent hence forth.
