There was tension at Enyimba FC’s training ground in Aba on Monday after Sporting Director, Daniel Eke, allegedly arrived at the venue in company of officers believed to be from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
According to witnesses, the presence of the security operatives caused panic and forced the team to abruptly suspend its training session.
Some officials of the club were also said to have been taken out of the facility in the course of the incident.
The drama is coming on the heels of Enyimba’s 1-0 defeat to Inter Lagos at home on Sunday, a result that has heightened scrutiny around the club’s poor run of form.
Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged that the Sporting Director was pleased with the loss suffered on Sunday.
It took the intervention of the club Chairman, Ambassador Kanu Nwankwo, to douse the tension and restore some calm to the situation.
As of press time, it was learnt that players, members of the coaching crew and other staff had moved to the police station over the matter.
Enyimba have not issued any official statement regarding the development.
The team was said to be preparing for their midweek encounter against Sporting Lagos in Aba.
