The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Rivers State chapter, has congratulated veteran sports journalist and broadcaster, China Acheru, on his appointment as Liaison Secretary for Rivers State for the forthcoming Niger Delta Games 2027.
Acheru’s appointment was contained in a letter dated September 15, 2027, which formally confirmed his engagement as the principal coordination link between the Dunamis Icon Team and Rivers State.
According to the letter, the Niger Delta Games is a regional multi-sport platform established to promote sports development, youth engagement and regional integration across the Niger Delta.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Cyril Dum Wite, and Secretary, Comrade Tonye Orabere JP, Rivers SWAN expressed confidence in Acheru’s capacity to deliver, citing his wealth of experience in sports organization.
The association noted that Acheru, who is also a national officer of SWAN, successfully organized a grassroots football talent hunt competition sponsored by former Super Eagles player, Brown Ideye, for two consecutive years.
Rivers SWAN urged him to be diligent, proactive and prudent in the discharge of his duties.
“We know that China Acheru will make us proud; we don’t have any doubt on his capacity to achieve success,” the association stated.
The Niger Delta Games, sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, is a pilot programme aimed at discovering talents at the grassroots, harnessing youth potential and reducing restiveness in the region.
