Nigeria’s Junior Female YellowGreens have secured their place in the final of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 – Tanzania 2026.
The team produced another commanding performance to defeat Rwanda U19 Women by 9 wickets.
The victory marks Nigeria’s fourth consecutive win in four matches thus extending their unbeaten run and confirmed them as one of the standout teams of the tournament.
Rwanda won the toss and elected to bat at the TCA Cricket Arena, Tanzania, but Nigeria’s bowling unit quickly established control, dismissing them for just 65 runs in 19.1 overs.
Nigeria then made light work of the chase, reaching 66 for 1 in just 10.4 overs to seal a comprehensive nine-wicket victory.
Nigeria’s success was built around another outstanding performance with the ball.
Player of the match and Captain of the team, Christabel Chukwuonye delivered a sensational spell, claiming 4 wickets for just 6 runs in 3.1 overs, dismantling Rwanda’s lower order and finishing with an economy rate of just 1.89.
She was ably supported by Peace Usen, who returned 2 wickets for 7 runs from four overs, including two maiden overs, while Jennifer Godwin also claimed two wickets for seven runs.
Nigeria’s bowling discipline ensured Rwanda struggled to build partnerships.
Only Thania Uwase Niyorukundo, who scored 20 from 28 deliveries, managed to make a significant contribution as Rwanda were eventually bowled out for 65.
The wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with Nigeria’s attack maintaining pressure until the final Rwanda batter was dismissed in the 19.1 over.
Chasing 66, Nigeria showed exactly the kind of composure expected from a team with its eyes firmly on the final.
After losing Beauty Oguai for 2, the Junior Female YellowGreens did not allow the early setback to disrupt their momentum.
Omosigho Eguakun produced another important innings, remaining unbeaten on 35 from 29 balls, striking six boundaries at a strike rate of 120.69.
She was joined by Shola Adekunle, who finished unbeaten on 26 from 26 deliveries, with five boundaries. Together, the pair guided Nigeria safely across the line in just 10.4 overs.
It was another example of Nigeria’s growing maturity in the tournament, clinical with the ball, measured when required with the bat, and ruthless when opportunities presented themselves.
The significance of this victory goes beyond the nine-wicket margin.
Nigeria entered the tournament with a clear objective: secure qualification and earn the opportunity to compete on the biggest stage.
Four matches later, the Junior Female YellowGreens have delivered four victories.
From their opening win over Uganda, followed by a commanding victory against Malawi, to today’s emphatic performance against Rwanda, Nigeria have consistently demonstrated the depth, discipline and competitive character required to navigate a high-pressure qualification tournament.
The latest result further strengthens that case.
The Junior Female YellowGreens are now through to the final where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between Zimbabwe U19 Women and Uganda U19 Women.
For Nigeria, however, the job is not finished.
The final presents an opportunity to complete what has so far been an exceptional campaign with a fifth consecutive victory—and, more importantly, underline the emergence of another exciting generation of Nigerian female cricketers.
