….defers Action On Sexual Harassment  Allegation

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has placed Prof. Ifeanyi Sunny Odinye of the Department of Chinese Studies on a three-month suspension with half pay for alleged violations of the institution’s General and Academic Regulations.

In a decision based on the interim findings of a six-member Special Investigative Panel, the university said it would defer action on the separate allegation of sexual harassment leveled against the lecturer pending further inquiry.

The panel, headed by the Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Emmanuel Obidimma, submitted its preliminary report to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie on Friday.

The probe was set up to examine claims arising from an incident involving staff and students of the Department of Chinese Studies.

According to the university, additional investigations are required to establish the facts relating to the sexual harassment claim before any determination can be made.
