The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated that motorists using vehicles with tinted glasses must obtain the appropriate permit, describing the policy as a security measure aimed at enhancing public safety and effective policing.
The clarification followed an incident in which police officers on duty rejected a ₦200,000 bribe offered by a motorist who was stopped for using tinted glass without a permit.
According to the Command, the officers demonstrated professionalism by refusing the money and directing the motorist to either remove the unauthorised tint or obtain the required permit.
The Command commended the officers for their discipline and integrity, saying their action reflects the resolve of the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama psc mnips, to enforce the law without compromise.
The police explained that the tinted-glass permit is not meant to harass law-abiding motorists, but to properly regulate vehicles for security reasons. The Command noted that tinted windows can pose operational challenges to law enforcement, especially regarding the visibility of occupants.
Vehicle owners who do not wish to obtain a permit have been advised to remove the tint.
The Command urged motorists and vehicle owners to comply with regulations and desist from offering money or other inducements to police officers to evade lawful enforcement.
CP Ama also called on members of the public to report any officer who demands money in connection with tinted-glass enforcement or any other police duty, assuring that disciplinary measures will be taken against any personnel found culpable.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to professional, accountable, and people-oriented policing as it works with Ndi Anambra and other stakeholders to sustain a safe and secure environment across the state.
