Ebony State Football Association has handed out a hefty two – year ban on Cynosure FC in the aftermath of the President, Prince Chidi Nweze’s correspondence to NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, over what the club termed as ‘lack of level playing field to clubs participating in the NLO play-off slated for Aba’.
Trouble started when Cynosure FC filed a protest to the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, claiming that its unfair to take the promotion play-off to Enyimba Stadium, Aba, Abia State, with two teams from the state — Right2Win FC and Jaguar FC — taking part.
Cynosure FC, Abakaliki and Ecomzy FC, Owerri, are the other clubs set to fight for the sole promotion ticket to the Nigeria Natiinal League, NNL.
Cynosure FC claimed that with two teams from Abia State in contention, it amounts to a bend in the scale of justice for the games to be played in Aba, wondering where ‘justice’ and ‘sporting fairness’ is in such arrangement.
“I spoke with NFF President and he asked for details of what I was saying, and I forwarded it to him. And an acknowledgement of receipt was sent to me”, Prince Nweze said.
“Shockingly, the Ebonyi State FA said they have banned me and my club for two years in football related activities in the state. They claimed that they were not aware of the protest I sent to Abuja since they did not sign, and stamp it.
“Worse is the fact that they refused to listen to my explanation. They even denied my right of appeal”, Prince Nweze cried out.
The Aba Zonal promotion matches is billed to get underway on Friday, 7 August, 2026.
