Nnamdi Azikiwe University has been selected by the National Universities Commission as one of only ten universities in Nigeria to pilot the Blueprint ICT Development Project.
The Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, announced this on Monday in Abuja during the project’s inaugural meeting. He said the ten pilot schools will test the project before it is rolled out nationwide.
The Blueprint ICT project is supported by the Agence Française de Développement. It aims to upgrade digital infrastructure, automate university operations, expand e-learning, and train staff in modern ICT skills.
For UNIZIK, the selection is another boost for its push toward a smart, digital campus. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Anyaehie, says the initiative will strengthen teaching, research, and administration.
This also builds on UNIZIK’s earlier success as last year, the university won a 3.3 million dollar AFD ICT Infrastructure Upgrade Project led by a team of professors including Professor Kenneth Ngwoke.
NUC says lessons from the pilot phase will shape ICT development across all Nigerian universities.
With this, UNIZIK is now positioned to help shape the future of digital education in the country.
