Nigeria Football Federation President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has congratulated Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi on his re-election as Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association for a second term.

Gusau conveyed his message to Iloenyosi via phone on Tuesday, commending the AnSFA boss for his unopposed return and the confidence reposed in him by delegates.

“Your unopposed return reflects the trust the football family in Anambra has in your leadership. I am confident you will consolidate on the gains of your first tenure and take football in the state to greater heights,” Gusau said.

The NFF President assured Iloenyosi of the federation’s continued partnership on grassroots development, youth football, coach education and infrastructure growth in Anambra.

Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi was retuned unopposed.

He was declared winner by Electoral Committee Chairman Barr. Darlington Okeke, after polling all 23 votes at the AnSFA Elective Congress held at East End Hotel, Awka on Tuesday.

Chief Johnson Ifejika was elected as Vice Chairman. Veteran sports journalist, Mr Ralph-Chidozie George was also re-elected as a Board Member, alongside Obi Moneke for Anambra Central. Emmanuel Okeke and Nnamdi Igbokwe joined  Chief Ifejika to represent Anambra North, while Mr Ezeokafor Donatus, Mr Mbaezue Micheal and retired FIFA referee, Pastor Ijeoma Nwosu filled the Anambra South slots.

In his post-election remarks, chief Iloenyosi thanked FA members for renewing their confidence and pledged to work with the Anambra government and sports writers to ensure football retains its pride of place as the king of sports in the state.

NFF representative at the election, Alhaji Mohammed Ameenu, described the process as “free, fair and transparent” and noted that chief Iloenyosi’s unopposed re-election was an indication of the acceptance he enjoys among colleagues.

It will be recalled that Chief Iloenyosi’s Board was elected in October 2020 but did not commence effectively until July 2022 when the NFF directed him to assume office following the merit of his petition.
