The Idemili Federal Constituency of Anambra State may be in for a good time, going by the fiery comments of Chief Peter Chukwunulu Okoye, of the Labour Party(LP) and Barrister Kingsley Ezekwelu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Both candidates of their parties respectively in the coming general election.
The two young men spoke to journalists shortly after they kick-started their 2027 general election Consultative Stakeholders meeting at Umuoji, for Okoye and Ojoto for Barrister Ezekwelu Thursday morning.
Okoye who was described as the “engine room” of the LP who ensured it didn’t disintegrate when it faced battery of law suits clinched the Federal House of Representatives ticket.
He assured the party and constituents that he stepped out to take the area from the lethargy and doldrum of poor representation which it’s going through recently.
He came close to tears for what he described as “a wasted four years of poor representation and mere bench warming in the outgoing legislative year.
He threw the abysmal representation public when he picked five persons at random at the meeting to name the incumbent occupant of the seat and his achievements, but none was able to name him or any achievement.
They doubted whether the incumbent ever visited the constituency, let alone attracted any project.
Peter Okoye lamented that”it’s politically anomalous for the constituency to be wallowing in social, and economic needs yet we allow a political neophyte to go and be swallowed up by the voices of experienced and articulate representatives from other parts of the country.
To express his confidence in his ability and preparedness, Okoye assured that if within 180 days at the Green Chamber without very significant impact to the constituency he would offer to quit. That he would sign a “bond of performance” with the citizens.
He listed erosion control, healthcare services, schools, insecurity and improved road network as some of the key areas that would engage his immediate attention. He regretted that only recondite representatives segregate between federal and state projects, noting that everything benefits or affect the State’s citizens.
Speaking in similar tone, Ezekwelu lamented that he was worried whenever he visited other parts of Nigeria and saw numerous life enhancing programs and projects courtesy of their legislators.
Ezekwelu therefore urged citizens of Idemili to eschew no political bigotry and semantics and come out enmasse to vote ability, articulate and well focused candidate so as to transform Idemili North and South communities.
