Edel FC are champions of Anambra again. The Nigeria National League side sealed the 20th ANSFA/NEROS Pharmaceuticals FA Cup on Sunday with a commanding 2-0 victory over non-league Amanda FC at Neros Stadium, Nanka.

Solomon Ugwu and Damian Udoye struck in each half to hand Coach Phinan Ozonweke’s men a second straight title, one year after their first triumph.

Edel FC stamped their authority early, dominating possession and creating chances at will. Their only blemish was profligacy in front of goal. In the 6th minute, Ugwu saw his penalty saved after the Amanda FC keeper guessed right and dived low to his right.

The breakthrough came late in the first half. Ugwu made amends, smashing home a right-footed finish from the edge of the six-yard box to put the Galloping Zebras ahead.

The second half followed the same script. Udoye doubled the lead with a moment of brilliance, weaving through the left before rifling into the top corner.

Sir Victor Nwangwu, representing sponsor Professor Polycarp Emenike, MON (Odenigbo Nanka), presented Edel FC with the trophy and a ₦2m prize. Runners-up Amanda FC took home ₦1m, while third-place Game Changers received ₦500,000.

Despite the scoreline, Amanda FC’s keeper earned plaudits for his penalty heroics. But Edel’s experience and precision proved too much, as they retained their crown in emphatic style.
