The Anambra Football Association has joined the Nigerian football family in mourning the passing of the president of the Nigeria Referees Association, Alhaji Sani Zubairu.
The Chairman, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi in a message expressed condolences on the passing of the whistle giant, a retired FIFA referee.
Chief Iloenyosi said that the news of Alhaji Sani Zubairu’s passing has sent shockwaves of sadness across the Nigerian football community describing him as a stalwart of the game who wore many hats.
“The late Sani Zubairu was a stalwart who contributed immensely to the development of refereeing in Nigeria. His focus on ICT in referee development and improving referee welfare will be remembered”.

Zubairu was known for enhancing refereeing standards and improving referee welfare in Nigeria. He was elected NRA President in April 2023 and passed away on March 24, 2026, after a long illness.
