The University of Ibadan on Friday, November 21, 2025, marked a historic milestone as the Ex-University of Ibadan Footballers Association (EXUIFA), in collaboration with Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited JV, unveiled a state-of-the-art multimillion-naira 7-Aside astro turf beside the UI Stadium.
The event drew notable dignitaries, including Engr. Anthony Attah, MD/CEO of Renaissance Africa, who spearheaded the project, and Dr. Allen Onyema, MD/CEO of AirPeace.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ajayi commended Renaissance Africa and EXUIFA for the “astonishing speed and quality” of the facility, celebrating its potential to elevate UI’s sporting standards and enrich community recreation.
Speaking through General Secretary Lawrence Osuagwu, EXUIFA President Mr Edwin Evbie described the project as “a victory for mankind and the next generation,” emphasizing its role as a legacy for nurturing future champions and fostering unity.
Mr Evbie extended heartfelt gratitude to Renaissance Africa JV and Engr. Attah for their visionary partnership, as well as to the EXUIFA Board of Trustees, led by Mogaji (Prof.) Olusegun Adekunle, and the project committees for overcoming technical hurdles to deliver the facility on schedule.
“This project proves that when alumni unite behind a mission, nothing is impossible,” he remarked.
A highlight of the event was the dedication of the spectator stand as the Dr. Isiaka Abiodun Salami Stand, in honour of UI’s longest-serving soccer coach and former Director of Sports.
Overwhelmed, Dr. Salami expressed deep gratitude, stating, “I feel truly honoured that such a historic project happened in my lifetime.”
The event also featured a friendly match between EXUIFA and the sponsors’ team, showcasing the high-performance turf. Reflecting on the occasion, Evbie declared, “This arena is hope for the next global star who will rise from this ground.”
With this achievement, EXUIFA has cemented its legacy as one of UI’s most impactful alumni groups, proving how unity and clear vision can transform Nigeria’s foremost university. The association will celebrate its 11th World Annual Reunion on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in Ibadan, bringing members together to honour their shared heritage.
