The Abia Warriors U-19 side on Thursday booked a place in the Nationwide League One (NLO) Division 2 after defeating Inter FC, Enugu, 2-1, in a tightly contested encounter at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.

Chijindu Godwin’s brace in the 25th and 40th minutes of the game was enough to seal victory for the Young Warriors, with the Enugu Boys pushing hard but ultimately coming up short.

The Warriors now advance to feature in the next level of the competition scheduled to kick off next year.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the match, the NLO Abakaliki Zonal Co-ordinator, Ijeoma Ikeh, confirmed that Abia Warriors had officially secured qualification for Division 2. She commended the Chairman of the NLO, Mr. Silas Agara, for his steadfast commitment to grassroots football, while also appreciating the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Olushola Ogunowo, staff of the league, and the Ebonyi State Government for their support in ensuring the success of the tournament.

Also reacting, the Vice Chairman of Abia Warriors, Hon. Dennis Anokwuru, alongside the team’s Coach, Uko Chidozie, praised the players for their resilience and fighting spirit despite the stiff challenge posed by their opponents.

Team captain, Chuks Edward, expressed satisfaction with the squad’s performance, noting that the players will return to the drawing board in preparation for their upcoming fixtures.

With the victory, the Abia Warriors U-19 team joins the list of promising clubs aiming to make their mark in the NLO Division 2 when the season begins next year.
