Umuchu Community Holds 2025 Unity New Yam Festival, Cultural Carnival

.…As Stakeholders Pray For Continuous Peace

As part of the Unity New Yam Festival, 2025 in Umuchu, the people of Umuchu including women, children, the youths and community leaders gathered for a cultural carnival at Nkwo Umuchu Market Square to round off the three-day event.

The cultural festival featured presentation of kolanuts to the three quarters of Umuchu, including Ifite, Amanasaa, and Okpunachala with prayers for the people and the land of Umuchu by the representatives of the three quarters.

In a speech, the President General, Umuchu Improvement Union Representatives Assembly, Sir Charles Ezenwabasili expressed delight with the massive turnout of Ndi Umuchu for the social evening and commends the planning committee of Iri Ji Umuchu for an excellent job, calling on all to make themselves available to serve, anytime the community needs them.

In their separate comments, one of the Cabinet Chiefs at the event, Chief Emmanuel Ezeakunne; the Chairman of Ndi Ichie Umuchu, Ichie Engr. Chris Okafor; the Chairman, Amanasaa Progressive Union, Nze Chukwudi Okafor; and the Umuchu Youth Leader, Nze Chijioke Ononuju noted that Umuchu has never had it so good as a community, pointing out that there is no limit to what a community can achieve with peace, unity and love.

Other stakeholders including the first Vice President, U.I.U.R.A., Chief Victor Onwunedo, Hon. Chukwuma Ezeafulukwe, and Mr. Promise Okonkwo observed that the beauty of unity in any community cannot be over emphasized and prays for continuous peace in Umuchu.

In a vote of thanks, the Chairman, Iri ji Umuchu planning committee, 2025, Nze Chimezie Ikeh thanked the President General of Umuchu Improvement Union Representatives Assembly, Sir Charles Ezenwabasili and his Executives for finding them worthy to serve Umuchu, and assured that the next year’s Iri Ji festival in Umuchu will be greater.

Highlights of the event were Njima dance, live band, Mbem display by Ichoku Ogbanje, and presentation of trophies to the champions of the Iri ji Football competition while assorted masquerade displays added a colourful ambience to the occasion.
