The Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO) has developed a practical guide titled “Doing Civic and Voter Education – A Practical Guide for Community Media Professionals in Nigeria.”
The toolkit aims to support broadcast media professionals in promoting civic awareness and deepening electoral participation through impactful programming.
The guide offers actionable guidance for content producers, editors, and presenters to enhance their civic and voter education efforts, emphasizes the importance of inclusive, ethical, and engaging media content.
The publication also provides adaptable formats that can be used by broadcasters serving both local and national audiences.
CEMESO developed the toolkit in collaboration with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), broadcast media practitioners, and other stakeholders, with support from the European Union under the EU-SDGN II Project.
The toolkit seeks to address the underrepresentation of civic and voter education content in many broadcast media schedules.
By providing valuable insights and practical strategies, CEMESO aims to strengthen public understanding of electoral processes and democratic governance in Nigeria.
CEMESO therefore invites broadcasters to explore the publication, adapt its tools to their platform’s context, and incorporate them into their civic programming.
The organization will also gather feedback and reflections from users in the coming weeks to assess the toolkit’s relevance and usefulness.
