Several eyewitness videos are making the rounds online showing sporadic gunshots in the town of Ekwulobia in Anambra state today, Wednesday, 9th July 2025.

In one of the videos, a Keke driver was seen lying lifeless inside his Keke. In another scene, a man also lies lifeless inside what appears to be a shop.

Several residents in viral audio have asked people to be careful and to stay safe if in the area. In another video, an armed gunman could be seen prancing about at the foot of the newly constructed Ekwulobia flyover bridge.

No group has claimed responsibility for these incidents and the Anambra state police command has not commented on the development as at the time of writing this.

Some commentators are linking the renewed gunmen attacks in the state to the forthcoming Anambra state gubernatorial elections scheduled to hold on November 8 2025.

Some are also tasking the security agencies, the state government and the state-sponsored Udogachi vigilante operatives to do more in securing lives and property in the state.
