Kwara United has ended a 49-year trophy drought by winning the 2025 President Federation Cup, securing a CAF Confederation Cup ticket in the process.

The Harmony Boys defeated Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

Neither team could find the breakthrough in 90 minutes, with Kwara United’s Junior Aimufua hitting the crossbar and Wasiu Alalade’s goal being ruled out for offside.

The match went to penalties, where Kwara United goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso made a crucial save to help his team seal the win.

Head Coach Tunde Sanni praised his players for their resilience and composure, describing the victory as a historic moment for Kwara State.

The win marks a new chapter in the club’s history, and they will now represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The occasion was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, host governor, Chief Sanwo Olu and NFF President Mallam Ibrahim Gusau amongst many others highlighting the significance of the tournament.
